Consider using custom bags to carry your household recycling. At my old apartment I had two giant Ikea custom bags that I used to collect glass bottles, plastic, newspaper… everything. The recycling containers for my complex were a bit of a trek, so I would put off taking out the recycling, and the enormity of these bags allowed me to do that for quite a while. Recycling turned into a once-a-month, half-hour chore. Now I have less space in my new place for recycling, so I use a smaller custom bag next to the trashcan in the hallway outside my kitchen. We have to take it out once a week but it’s worth it to get the musty beer bottle smell out of the house.
