I was waiting in line at the smoothie stand in the mall last Saturday and heard a kerfuffle coming near me. I turned around and ten feet away were two men running towards me in a brawl. One of them pinned the other against a large decorative trashcan and held him there while the man shouted that he couldn’t breathe and “didn’t do nothing wrong.” I just stood there staring like one of those bystanders you hear about on Dateline who fails to help someone being attacked. A couple of dozen other people did the same thing. Finally the apprehender muscled the man into Bloomingdales while a saleslady came out and collected his custom bags. Apparently he had been using his custom bags to pilfer items from Bloomingdales. Let this be a lesson to you: shoplifting with custom bags will only get you thrown against a trashcan.
